On Thursday 10th August 2018, Kenya Association of Music Producers (KAMP) Board of Directors appointed Anthony Murimi Karani as the new chairman of the Board of Directors, for a period of 3 years with immediate effect.
Commenting on his appointment Anthony Karani said, “I am honored to have been elected as Chairman of this fantastic society and I will continue to devote much of my time and efforts towards helping us make further progress. It’s a real pleasure and honor for me to take up this and I am looking forward to use my experience to support KAMP in achieving its goals."
Anthony Karani has an extensive experience in Music industry. He ventured into music production in the year 2003. This was the year when the industry was undergoing a transformation from cassettes to CDs. In benga genre, he was among the first producers to produce the then famous “one man guitar”. He introduced, promoted and made available for sale Bongo music in Kenya in the year 2006 working with great artists like Ali Kiba, Prof. J, Z. Anto, Matonya, A.Y., Mwana F.A., Marlow among others. As a patriot, he brought the “up town” local music to river road working with the likes of Nameless, Ogopa DJs, Amani, Wahu, Jaguar, Pilipili, D.N.A. among many others. He is the Founder and managing director Times Square Entertainment which has released numerous productions into the Kenya Market. Anthony Karani has been in the fore front fighting against piracy. In corroboration with KECOBO, he has transversed the country fighting piracy, adducing evidence in various courts and eventually leading to convictions. His vision is to see a thriving entertainment industry where creators are adequately rewarded for their labor.
Anthoni Karani joined Gathirwa & Co. Advocates in 1991. In 2005 he left the company having worked for 14 years and joined the music industry where he established his production label, Times Square. He has amassed wealth and knowledge in Intellectual property and copyright law has undergone training on WIPO IP course from world intellectual property organization (WIPO) and recently he undertook the Harvard copyrightX course where he was issued a certificate on the same. He also undertook the Kenya Accountants Technicians course by KASNEB.
The Board of Directors is convinced that Anthony Karani, with his proven track record of accomplishments as leaders and in-depth experience in the industry, will bring a wealth of knowledge and valuable experiences to the organization.
