The Kenya Association of Music producers (KAMP) has appointed Angela Ndambuki as the Vice Chairperson to the company's Board of Directors for a period of 3 years effective immediately.

Commenting on her appointment, Angela said, “I am honoured to be appointed as vice-chairperson of KAMP. It gives me the opportunity to share my experiences and help grow the organisation. I believe there are huge opportunities for the organisation and I look forward to working with the Board and management team to strengthen our position in the copyright industry for the benefit of all our members.”

Angela Ndambuki is a highly accomplished, results-oriented executive with several years of experience and vast knowledge in strategic decision making and leadership. She holds a Master of Law in Intellectual property Law from University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi.

Most recently, she was the Chief Executive Officer at Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) where she provided visionary leadership, coordinated programs and activities for the organization and advanced relations with the government, stakeholders and the donor community. Her passion for intellectual property saw her secure collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) on Intellectual Property Rights advancement in the business community through training and creation of an IP Policy. Her hard work and resilience saw her nominated as a member of the Advisory Panel for the UK based African Financial & Economic Crimes Academy to tackle financial and economic crime in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Previously, she served as the Chief Executive Officer at Performers Rights Society of Kenya (PRISK) where she was nominated by WIPO in collaboration with the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO) as a Speaker in the sub-regional meeting in Zimbabwe on Economic Impetus in the Creative Industries. She also facilitated the implementation of the first local monitoring and distribution software for collective management of neighboring rights in Sub-Saharan Africa and successfully steered PRISK to become the first African CMO to member of the international performers rights societies umbrella body; SCAPR in 2014. She has won numerous awards including the prestigious CEO Global Awards, 2015 Africa’s Most Influential Women in Business and Government in the Category of Welfare and Civil Society Organizations, Top 40 under 40 Women 2017 and listing as 100 most Reputable Africans by Reputation Poll. She also sits as a board member of the Machakos County Entertainment Centre for Film, Media, Music and the Arts

On Thursday 10^th August 2018, Kenya Association of Music Producers (KAMP) Board of Directors appointed Anthony Murimi Karani as the new chairman of the Board of Directors, for a period of 3 years with immediate effect.

Commenting on his appointment Anthony Karani said, “I am honored to have been elected as Chairman of this fantastic society and I will continue to devote much of my time and efforts towards helping us make further progress. It’s a real pleasure and honor for me to take up this and I am looking forward to use my experience to support KAMP in achieving its goals."

Anthony Karani has an extensive experience in Music industry. He ventured into music production in the year 2003. This was the year when the industry was undergoing a transformation from cassettes to CDs. In benga genre, he was among the first producers to produce the then famous “one man guitar”. He introduced, promoted and made available for sale Bongo music in Kenya in the year 2006 working with great artists like Ali Kiba, Prof. J, Z. Anto, Matonya, A.Y., Mwana F.A., Marlow among others. As a patriot, he brought the “up town” local music to river road working with the likes of Nameless, Ogopa DJs, Amani, Wahu, Jaguar, Pilipili, D.N.A. among many others.   He is the Founder and managing director Times Square Entertainment which has released numerous productions into the Kenya Market. Anthony Karani has been in the fore front fighting against piracy. In corroboration with KECOBO, he has transversed the country fighting piracy, adducing evidence in various courts and eventually leading to convictions. His vision is to see a thriving entertainment industry where creators are adequately rewarded for their labor.

Anthoni Karani joined Gathirwa & Co. Advocates in 1991. In 2005 he left the company having worked for 14 years and joined the music industry where he established his production label, Times Square. He has amassed wealth and knowledge in Intellectual property and copyright law has undergone training on WIPO IP course from world intellectual property organization (WIPO) and recently he undertook the Harvard copyrightX course where he was issued a certificate on the same. He also undertook the Kenya Accountants Technicians course by KASNEB.

The Board of Directors is convinced that Anthony Karani, with his proven track record of accomplishments as leaders and in-depth experience in the industry, will bring a wealth of knowledge and valuable experiences to the organization.

YouTube has made a positive move with the creator community by expanding music credits on the platform. According to an announcement, “Music in this video” credits the artist, songwriter, label and publishers behind than half a billion music videos. The feature will provide credits and music discovery information on both music videos as well as user-generated content that features recorded music.

Consumers are able to access the credits when they click the ‘Show More’ button under each video.

This drop-down area includes artist, songwriter, publisher and label information, in addition to a link to the Official Artist Channel and official music video when available.

YouTube said in a blog that the move would “provide greater recognition and exposure to the people who contribute to the creative process [and] more opportunities for artists and songwriters to reach YouTube’s diverse audience”.

YouTube has clarified that its move had been made possible by the ingestion of metadata from labels, publishers and music licensing societies around the world.

This data is being fed into YouTube’s Content ID technology, which ultimately allows copyright owners to identify and manage their content.
